OCTAGON PARTNERS WITH SAS FOR SECOND “HBCU INVITATIONAL” TOURNAMENT AS PART OF 2023 SAS CHAMPIONSHIP

80 Students from 13 HBCU Schools Participated in Three-Day, 54-Hole Tournament Alongside PGA TOUR Champions Event
Florida A&M and Livingstone Won the Championships in the Men’s Tournament, and Howard Won the Women’s Title
Cary, North Carolina – October 18, 2023 – Octagon and SAS teamed up once again to host the second annual SAS Championship HBCU Invitational, as part of this year’s PGA TOUR Champions event. The highly-anticipated tournament took place alongside the annual SAS Championship at Prestonwood Country Club, in Cary, North Carolina, from October 12 – 15.
This year’s SAS HBCU Invitational featured 80 total student-athletes competing from 13 schools, including seven returning teams from the 2022 field. A one-of-a-kind event, the invitational tournament invites golfers from HBCU schools to compete at the same time and course as the PGA TOUR pros.
Octagon, which has operated the SAS Championship for its entire 23-year history, coordinated and managed both the PGA TOUR event and the HBCU Invitational tournament.
The 2023 SAS HBCU Invitational field included seven women’s teams and 10 men’s teams playing in the scheduled three-round event, which due to weather was shortened to two rounds. Howard once again secured the women’s title, while Florida A&M defended the Division I men’s title, and Livingstone College won the Division II men’s tournament.
In advance of the competition, SAS hosted a special career day for the students, including a tour of the SAS campus and networking opportunities with a number of SAS executives. The student-athletes also had a chance to meet fellow competitors and a variety of pros from the PGA TOUR Champions tournament, during the weekend’s annual Champions Cookout.
