Anderson to Drive Agency Vision and Growth in Australia as the Country Continues its Investment in Sport.

SYDNEY – January 22, 2025 – Octagon, the world’s preeminent agency in sports and entertainment, announced today the appointment of Kim Anderson as Managing Director for Australia. Based in Sydney, Anderson will oversee the agency’s vision, operations, and output with a phenomenal horizon of major sporting events on the landscape over the coming years.

Anderson was most recently responsible for spearheading the winning bid campaign for Australia and New Zealand to host the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023, before going on to lead the tournament’s marketing division – delivering the most ground-breaking women’s sporting event in history.

Reporting to Joanne Warnes, Managing Director of Octagon APAC, Anderson brings over two decades of experience shaping iconic sports and entertainment campaigns worldwide. Her addition signals a bold growth phase for Octagon Australia, as the nation steps into the global spotlight with an unprecedented lineup of major events, culminating with the 2032 Brisbane Olympics and Paralympics.

“Kim’s expertise and impressive track record spans industry-defining projects and campaigns that have transformed culture,” said Warnes. “As Australia gears up for a decade of unmissable global events, Kim’s leadership, trusted perspective and unique insights will be incredibly valuable in helping our clients connect with audiences and their passions in new and meaningful ways. We couldn’t be more excited to welcome her to the team.”

For Anderson, the step back into agency world is both a reconnection with her time in the global innovation and creative industry, and a view to the future in the roles that agencies continue to play in navigating the intersection of sport, culture, and fandom.

“Octagon has a reputation for creating campaigns that leave an indelible mark, with an extraordinary set of leading brands and sports bodies,” said Anderson. “I’ve been fortunate enough to sit on the other side of the table and see the incredible work that Octagon has been able to deliver, and I’m thrilled to be joining a team that is working with some brilliant brands across the sports and entertainment landscape. I also believe that more can be done to elevate the way that brands and organisations play in sport, and with the eyes of the world swinging back this way over the coming years, feel that Octagon will be at the forefront of how this develops.”

Over the past several years, Anderson has led strategic consulting projects for a variety of top-tier properties and partners, furthering her distinct perspective on the business impact that brand and creativity can play in the sports and entertainment ecosystem.

Prior to her roles around the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023, Anderson was the Global Marketing Director at Smart Design in New York and London, and Marketing Director for TEDxSydney. Her early career saw Anderson make her mark at the Sydney Cricket Ground Trust, Sydney FC, and the Sydney Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (SOCOG).
